It applies mathematical and scientific principles inherent to engineering to the management and design of systems, execution of new product designs, improvement of manufacturing processes, and the management and direction of physical or technical functions of an organization. Includes instruction in basic engineering principles, project management, industrial techniques, production and operations management, systems integration and control, quality control, and statistics.

Applied engineers work on the application, design, and technical components in the development of new products. They integrate systems, thereby enhancing the manufacturing in addition to the utilization of an application and overseeing the development teams within a company.

Applied engineering deals with the application of management along with design and technical skills required for designing new products. Integrating systems, executing new product designs, and improving the current manufacturing processes while managing and directing a firm's physical or technical functions are also encompassed in this field.
